I am a camera

photoblog by Daniel Kaspar

That’s a squirrel in front of my window, eating a slice of toast. Some of my neighbours feed the squirrels with beans on toast and the animals don’t seem to be afraid of humans anymore. The grey squirrels have eliminated the red squirrels in most parts of England. Originally the greys come from North America. They are taller and more aggressive than their red relatives. The greys are vectors of the squirrel parapox virus, which is deadly to red squirrels but does not affect the host. When a grey squirrel is captured in England, it is illegal to release it. There are a couple of projects to help and protect the red squirrels. Here is a lnk to an interesting article about a group called Red Squirrel Protection Partnership.

great unusual capture!
