The Stadtschloß was the residence of the House of Brandenburg. After Word War 2, the palace was demolished by the East German regime, because it was a symbol of Prussian militarism. Instead, the Palast der Republik was erected here, which served as seat of the parliament of the German Democratic Republic. After the fall of the wall, the German government decided to demolish the Palast der Republik, because it was a symbol of Socialist tyranny. Instead, the old Stadtschloß will be reconstructed. This is the building site.
